Herpes symptoms pictures- what does a herpe sore look like
The symptoms of genital herpes can vary widely, depending upon whether you are having an initial or recurrent episode. However, many people infected with genital herpes never experience symptoms.
Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1
That painful cold sore you get on your lip every now and then? It's probably caused by a type of herpes virus called HSV-1. This virus is usually not an STD; it spreads easily among household members or through kissing. But it can be spread to the genitals through oral or genital contact with an infected person. Though there is no cure, drugs can shorten or prevent outbreaks.
Signs and Symptoms: Occasional cold sores or "fever blisters" on the lips. Small blister or sores on the genitals are also possible.
Cold sore stages images- Stages Of Cold Sores
- 1st Stage – Itching and irritating nerve tingling that begin 24 hours before the eruption of blisters.
- 2nd Stage – Appearance of fluid-filled blisters.
- 3rd Stage – The blisters burst and ooze, forming painful sores.
- 4th Stage – The sores dry up and start scabbing and may cause itching and cracking.
- 5th Stage – The scab finally falls off, and the sore begins healing.

Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2
Most cases of genital herpes are caused by a virus called HSV-2. It's highly contagious and can spread through intercourse or direct contact with a herpes sore. As with HSV-1, there is no cure. But antiviral drugs can make outbreaks less frequent and help clear up symptoms more quickly.
Symptoms: Fluid-filled blisters that form painful, crusted sores on the genitals, anus, thighs, or buttocks. Can spread to the lips through oral contact.
Early stages of the herpes rash
The above photo shows an example of the early stages of the herpes rash. Notice that the vesicles all appear to be on the same red base. This is different from the rash of chickenpox (see next picture), where each individual vesicle is on its own red base.
Genital Herpes Symptoms in Women
The ulcers of the disease may be multiple or there may be just a few. A finding of only one sore is not unusual. The lesions may be distributed widely over the perineum and the vulve, from the mons veneris (in front, where hair is), over the clitoris, the labia, and the forchet (the area between the posterior portion of the vagina and the anus). Sores may be noted to each side towards the thighs. Lesions in the area of the anus are not uncommon.
The typical lesions of herpes in women are about one centimeter or one fourth of an inch in diameter and are extremely painful to the touch. The pain is particularly severe in sores which are located on the labia (the lips of the vagina) or the clitoris (the structure tat is in front of the vagina and is highly supplied with nerves).
When the labia are involved with the disease process, they may swell to twice the normal size.
